A Day to Remember....28 February 2006

Ok, here's my 1st post of the year 2006. Has been wanting to update this ancient blog of mine but tons of excuses and other reasons kept popping up. Well, this should be also a day to remember since this is the 1st time I'm on MC at home (recovering from an infected left eye) and finally blogging.

Hmm… how do I start? I have been in the workforce for 9 months and it’s really a totally different experience from the good old studying days. I guess I’m really blessed to have 3 great schoolmates cum colleagues
with me on this journey. (Namely: Gam, Nest, Dodo & Cash (Me) – U know who u r)

February was a significant month for us as it marks the end of our happy times (in office). Ever since we learnt of Gam’s decision (to leave on the last day of Feb) in January, we’ve been making plans for a crazy ‘celebration’ nite out.

Happier times: Valentine’s Day 14 Feb 2006

Most Memorable Lunchtime Adventure: 17 Feb 2006, in search of 'Shuang Mian'

KTV 24 Feb 2006

But as the month drew nearer to its and reality hitting us hard, me, nest & dodo decided with heavy hearts to commemorate this Gam day with a BANG!

For the 1st time, I went to office on a Saturday (the day after our KTV nite) to retrieve our daily email exchange for the making of my PowerPoint, and proceed to IKEA with Nest to buy our stuff: frames and gift box. The whole day was filled with thoughts of Gam as we planned (at Coffee Club @ HarbourFront) for the series of surprises for her on the 28th. I was really affected (couldn’t decide whether to cry or laugh) as I was doing the slides with our photos and emails.

& The Day Finally Arrived…

After dumping my heavy bag at the workstation at 8.30am, I ran to Nest’s only to see her in a ‘frantic’ state of fixing the screws of gift box with bare hands. Laughing in amusement, I called Dodo (who’s still at home) to bring a ‘spanner’ for screws (but he brought a ‘cutter’ instead at around 8:50am).

Part 1 of the Day: Flowers Attack!

The Star & her Fans….

Nest had ‘risk’ her life to collect the lovely ‘pageant –looking’ bouquet of daisies at 11pm the previous nite and even got a copy of DO (Delivery Order) for us to trick Gam into believing that it’s really delivered to the office. Story behind the flowers: There’s a total of 9 stalks of daisy, signifying the 9 months we spent together and the ‘pageant’-styled wrapping was to honor Gam’s terrific ‘theatre’ expressions all these while. We roped in the help of Rosie, the receptionist to ring Gam to collect the flowers when she arrived. And she really believed that the flowers were delivered to office for her.

Part 2 of the Day: Cash’s MTV Premiere

For our last lunch @ Gam’s desk, Dodo and Nest went to tabao our fave Holland-V Fish soup while Cash lugged her heavy notebook to prepare for the “MTV” premiere (which Gam had thought I’m really gonna perform a rap for her…)

Gam directing Dodo to lay out our Fave Fish Soup

Beauty Fang joined in the fun as we laughed over the slides... Really no appetite to eat lunch that day (thou I ate all the yummy fish), which Dodo felt the same… (Nest finished hers thou! Haha..) Well… there goes our last lunch moment @ Gam’s.

For the rest of the day, Gam kept complaining seeing too much of me as I kept popping over (some are really intentional but some are really not!) as she clear her workstuff (and not having the time to reply to our emails...)

The Final Moment arrived at 6pm and the Final Surprise!

The Flowers & Matching Gift Box

& the Queen made her final exit….with her hands full!!

Opening the Box @ Paragon's Soup Kitchen
Presenting Dodo & his trademark gift of Persimmons, Nest & her sweet cross-stitch of CareBear, Cash & her photoframe (which is not the one from her desk!!)

Mango Desserts @ Shaw Towers' Xu Liu Shan -- Mangoes United!!!

Gam kept us amused with her typical pattern while the rest of us got into depression state…until she presented us with her surprise! Totally unexpected!

Dodo & his Beer

Nest & her Vodka

Cash & her ‘might as well’ Wine

Thanks Gam, for making us the pens with our nicks on it (thou Dodo’s one looked like 4 squares… ha!)

As we reluctantly bade our farewells to Gam, we posed for a Final Shot:

The 3 gals made our way to the bus stops at DFS when suddenly Gam saw her bus 167 and gave chase to it.

Gam having difficulties boarding the bus with her hands full… while Cash & Nest burst into laughter…

Thanks for giving me a last laugh as I went home grinning to myself as I recalled the last scene when we parted. It had been an emotionally drained and physically tired day for me.

Wednesday was a terrible day for us (hmmm… Nest was burning in flames to work hard hard thou) as we tried to get over the day without Gam. Lunch was quieter and the day seemed to pass so slowly…Thursday was better as I was out the whole day with a painful left eye (Tear glands super active on the left? Maybe…) And Friday, which is today, was spent on typing this out and bringing the whole depressing week to a closure.

Time to buck up and get serious with new tasks (in my work) as I’m no longer considered a ‘Noob’ (for definition of the word, please refer to the 1st post of this blog).

Nonetheless... We will be missing ya, Gam!

To be continued......
